How long does the pattern development (Phase 2) take?
The timeframe can range from 1-4 weeks per style, depending on the client's responsiveness, level of involvement in the development process, complexity and how busy they are.
Who do the patterns belong to?
You! As long as you have cleared your invoice in full.
If you've been producing offshore, the likelihood is high that your factory won’t readily provide your patterns. Brand owners often assume they automatically own the patterns, but in reality, many factories view them as their own property unless specified otherwise from the beginning.
Why is this such a significant issue?
1. Absence of Patterns = absence of accurate quotes. Without patterns, factories struggle to calculate fabric usage, labour, or costs. It's a risky endeavour with uncertain estimates.
2. Switching factories can be costly. Rapid replacement of pattern ownership entails starting from scratch, leading to increased time, samples, and expenditure.
3. Invest in Your Own Patterns, Despite the higher upfront investment, it offers complete control over production, reduces expenses in the long run, and allows flexibility in changing factories.
