Originating from Birmingham, UK and of Jamaican heritage, Nyheke Lambert founded Compass-I.D LTD in 2012 (formerly Nyheke Lambert LTD). Initially focused on menswear fashion design, she later shifted towards clothing development due to increased interest and demand..

Beginning with an unconventional start, her passion for science, specifically human biology, led her to pursue a bachelor's degree in audiology in 2009, with aspirations of becoming an ENT Medic. However, it turned out to be a false start. While audiology sparked her interest, it wasn't a long-term career path for her. Instead, she turned her attention to the subjects in school that brought her joy and in which she naturally excelled. These subjects included textiles, design technology, and art.

She then enrolled in a foundation course in art and design at Birmingham city university, enabling her to move to the big city and pursue a fashion design degree at the University of East London. It was during this time that she discovered her innate talent for comprehending briefs and developing garments to perfection.

However, it was only during her placement year at the University of East London that Nyheke truly discovered her passion for clothing engineering. She gained valuable experience by interning in three different markets, allowing her to gain a comprehensive understanding of the industry and determine where she wanted to specialise.

At House of Billiam, she learned the basics of outerwear: Intermediate pattern cutting, sewing, and connections with local suppliers. She worked on projects for One Direction, Lana Del Ray, Stooshe, Perez Hilton, and Harvard University while assisting with collaborations. At Marks & Spencer (high street), computer-aided design, presentations, research, design, development, and measuring pieces were the main skills. During her time at Minki Cheng (high end), she primarily focused on fittings, gaining a thorough understanding of technical patterns and sewing, all while regularly traveling between UK factories and suppliers.

In 2013, Nyheke made a pivotal decision in her career by leaving university and joining forces with Minki Cheng. She quickly discovered that hands-on experience was far more valuable than classroom learning. Although the pay only covered her basic expenses, she persisted in pursuing her passion.

Utilising the skills acquired during her placement year, she initiated personal projects at home and shared photos of her work on Instagram, resulting in a notable increase in commissions. Her clientele encompassed X-Factor finalists, UK music artists, and corporate entities organising live sewing events.

Over the last 13 years, she has built start-up brands in London by utilising her bedrooms as an atelier and more recently by renting premises. In January 2018, Nyheke left her job as an express tailor at Harrods to explore the potential of her skillset.

To ensure long-term sustainability, Nyheke expanded and developed services and increased volume. This involved forming a team and establishing partnerships with a manufacturers and suppliers overseas. In 2020, amidst the pandemic, these efforts came to fruition.

First was intern Alexander Bellanger, followed by junior pattern cutter and tailor Takudzwa Chigaduro, then senior digital pattern cutter Victor Izu, and finally production manager Andy Chen who had already been serving UK and US clients for the past 15 years. She outlined to all parties her endeavour to establish a novel and effective workflow that enables her clientele, in need of low production units, to reap the advantages of having their patterns developed in London for maximum client involvement and final samples and production were sewn in China for their skillset, resources, and affordability. In light of the pandemic, they operated as a quintet under increased pressure.

In the first year, they encountered challenges, but by 2022 Nyheke determined what was necessary for sustainability. With Ahmed Maphed taking over from Victor Izu, 2022-2023 marked the beginning of establishing the business structure.

By June 2024, Nyheke realised that even though they offered quality garments and an exceptional service, the delays from the manufacturer were affecting their clients. Despite consistent work, low quantity orders were never prioritised and were thus ruining the relationship between Nyheke and her clients. In order to maintain her reputation, Nyheke reluctantly decided to abandon this idea and focus on the aspects of her services that she had more control over.

Although initially contemplating the decision, she soon recognised it as the optimal choice for the business and has been thriving in the pattern development & grading space ever since. Promptly attracting prestigious projects. Compass-I.D LTD is now a fully digital operating company and now a team of two.

Nyheke and Ahmed collaborate jointly on projects. Ahmed handles predominantly the pattern development & grading, while Nyheke overseas every stage of this and manages his job sheets, client interactions, factory communication (where necessary), techpack creation, 3D rendering, and project oversight. Whilst dealing with the businesses sales and marketing. They are dedicated to delivering a professional service, upholding the utmost quality of work. Problem-solving and meticulousness are essential. Their primary objective is to surpass client expectations.

Nyheke has birthed many start-up clothing lines and completed high profile projects for various celebrities and stylists such as: Rough Copy, PAQ, Shadez The Misfit, G FrSH , Aitch, Chipmunk, Kylie Minogue, David Arlo, Chase & Status, Tiwa Savage, Sseg, Kendrick Lamar, Cherelle Skeete, Famous Kid Brick, Paul Carrick Brunson, Sam Smith.
